Biography

Hello, I’m Shalet, a Registered Clinical Counsellor practicing in British Columbia. I’ve walked the path of Type 1 Diabetes since I was 12 years old, and I intimately understand the ups and downs that come with it. Just like you, I’ve faced the unique challenges and triumphs of this journey, and I’m here to lend an understanding ear and a helping hand to individuals, couples, and families affected by diabetes. In my practice, I work with individuals who grapple with diabetes-related burnout, psychological trauma, depression, and anxiety. Whether these struggles are directly linked to diabetes or not, they can affect your diabetes management. I am here to help you develop coping strategies and find resilience amidst adversities. I am also a strong advocate for caregiver well-being and believe in nurturing the caregivers so they can continue to provide care to their loved ones with diabetes. Another strong focus of my practice is helping couples & families with communication challenges. Chronic conditions like diabetes can have profound effects on relationships and vice versa. As a trained attachment-based couples & family therapist, I offer my steady guidance to couples as they navigate these challenges. In my session with families, I facilitate conversations between caregivers and teens or adult children that foster understanding and collaboration around diabetes management. In short, I love helping people affected by diabetes find happier and healthier ways of living.
